Face Peels at Home: How to Use Them Safely

Updated 7 Oct 2026

Peels use mild acids to exfoliate the top layer of skin. At home they work best when you go slowly.

Pick your peel

How to use

  1. Patch test behind the ear or on the jaw 24 hours before.
  2. Cleanse and dry the face fully.
  3. Apply a thin layer, avoiding eyes, lips and broken skin.
  4. Leave on for the time given on the pack, then rinse.
  5. Follow with moisturiser, and sunscreen the next morning.

How often

Start once a week. Do not use more than two to three times a week, and never together with other strong acids or retinoids on the same night.

When to stop

Stop if you feel lasting burning, swelling or peeling beyond mild flaking, and see a doctor. Skin is more sun-sensitive after peels, so use SPF 50 every day.
